We are hundreds of thousands of people of all nationalities, races and faiths deeply committed to a spiritual way of life based on meditation, service to others, and personal transformation. If one were to summarise the mission and goals of Science of Spirituality in a few words, those words would be spirituality, peace, and service. With headquarters in Delhi, India, as well as a main centre in Chicago, USA, there are over 3,400 centres in more than forty countries. It offers people all over the world an opportunity to find peace, joy, and spiritual fulfilment. Teachers of Science of Spirituality present a simple and natural method of meditation leading to inner and outer peace. It provides a means whereby people of all ages, religions and nationalities can integrate meditation into their lives. This practice has been referred to as Surat Shabd Yoga, Sant Mat, or meditation on the inner Light and Sound. Practitioners learn how to develop noble human values that will transform and enrich their lives, enabling them to make positive contributions to the world. Practising the Sant Mat approach to spirituality does not require leaving one's faith, for at the core of each faith, we believe, is the one divine power that is the common goal of all spiritual aspiration. Raising our consciousness to experience God's Light within ourselves is the primary mission of Science of Spirituality. It is this practical experience of oneness — of ourselves with God, and of all beings with each other — that leads to true peace and fulfilment. Science of Spirituality couples a powerful meditation practice with a dynamic, inclusive and positive way of living. People are often attracted by its simplicity, integrity, and effectiveness in fostering real spiritual growth. ### Core Principles 1. There is one God of all creation 2. The true purpose of life is to reconnect with the soul 3. A competent teacher speeds our progress 4. Meditation is the surest way to spiritual growth 5. Spirituality is life-affirming ### Run by Volunteers No one at Science of Spirituality receives a salary or compensation for their services. All events and programmes are free and open to all. --- ## Science of Spirituality in Birmingham Registered Charity No. 1096502 In Birmingham and surrounding areas, regular gatherings have taken place for the past 40 years. In the early days the gatherings took place in local hired rooms within schools, universities and hotels. In the year 2003, we became a registered charity in the UK. We also held a major tour programme with spiritual talks given by Sant Rajinder Singh Ji. Hundreds of people gathered from across the country and abroad. In 2011, we were fortunate enough to purchase our very own building in Edgbaston, Birmingham. This Meditation centre lies next to the scenic Birmingham Reservoir, minutes from the city centre. In October 2011, the centre was inaugurated by Sant Rajinder Singh Ji. Once again, hundreds gathered for the public talks, nearly 250 from Europe. --- ## Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj The organisation is headed by world-renowned spiritual Master and meditation teacher Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj. He is the author of several best-selling books and a keynote speaker on the topic of spirituality and personal transformation. Travelling extensively throughout the world, he teaches a meditation technique focused on the inner Light and Sound. His talks reflect on life's purpose and how we can overcome life's challenges. Sant Rajinder Singh Ji offers guidance on finding peace and happiness through the transformative power of meditation. --- ## Meditation Whether you call it contemplation or prayer with attention, every spiritual tradition recommends some form of meditation to help achieve a peaceful, fulfilling life. Through meditation, we experience a profound peace, bliss, and happiness unlike any we can find in this world. ### Jyoti and Shabd Meditation Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj teaches two forms of meditation: - **Jyoti meditation** is a technique that focuses on the Inner Light. - **Shabd meditation** is a higher-level technique taught at the time of initiation, which focuses on the Inner Light and Sound. References to the divine Light and Sound of God are found in every religion. This power has also been called Naam, Shabd, the Holy Word, Sonorous Light, Voice of Silence, and other terms in various religions and languages. ### Focusing Our Attention All day long our attention, the outer expression of our soul, is going out into the world through our five senses of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. Through Jyoti and Shabd meditation, we withdraw our attention from the outer world and focus it at the seat of the soul, the third eye, located between and behind the two eyebrows. As we learn the art of Jyoti and Shabd meditation, we can collect our attention at the third eye and come in contact with the Light and Sound of God which is within each and every one of us. Through this divine connection, we can embark on the inner spiritual journey. The beauty of meditation is that the joy found when we focus within remains with us even after we resume our daily activities. ### Do I Need a Meditation Teacher? As with any new subject or skill in life, mastery requires learning from an adept who has themselves mastered the subject. Though the theory of meditation can be gleaned from a book, meditation is a practical experience, and the novice meditator will have many questions. Progress and success in this practice require a teacher — an adept who has already achieved the goal of meditation, can guide us through the process and show us how to perfect the technique. Students of meditation from around the world come to Science of Spirituality to learn from world-renowned meditation Master Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj, who has travelled the world for over thirty-five years teaching the technique of meditation. All programmes and workshops organised by Science of Spirituality are free and open to all. ### Recommended Reading - Inner and Outer Peace Through Meditation — by Rajinder Singh - Empowering Your Soul Through Meditation — by Rajinder Singh - Meditation as Medication for the Soul — by Rajinder Singh - Detox the Mind — by Rajinder Singh - Spark of the Divine — by Rajinder Singh --- ## Gatherings ### Sunday Satsang Congregations Every Sunday, 11am – 12.30pm Congregations called Satsangs take place regularly each Sunday.
